NO FOOTBALL FOR RYAN

It's table tennis all the way! Football would only be a distraction for Ryan who is destined to be a top player on the National scene going forward.

National Junior League day 1 took place at Halton Table Tennis Centre on Saturday 14 October 2017. Stockport Table Tennis Academy (STTA) had a brilliant start to their campaign for the junior division one competition.

After under achieving in the last two seasons when looking like hot favorites all the way, Stockport is off to a storming start. Stockport’s team of Ryan Choong, Ahab Isaac and sister of Ryan Sandy Choong were strong competitors all day long.

The table tennis in the first division was of the very highest caliber, phenomenal rallies, fierce attacking shots and defensive recovery shots. Shot of the day came form 12 year old Sandy who was giving away to some opposition players 5/6 years in age! Sandy collided with a side ball stop barrier while making a retrieval shot, fell onto the floor, quickly got up to her feet to win this point it was “pure gritty magic”.

William Hoyle wins top table tennis award

William Hoyle wins top table tennis award

The Stan Parr Award for most promising junior

William is a member of Stockport Table Tennis Academy (STTA) and he represents the Manchester League team playing in the Lancashire & Cheshire league. The inter-league junior team comes up against teams from other leagues across northwest namely Warrington, Southport, Preston, Liverpool and Oldham. Competition is fierce as this is the top premier division.

Picture L to R Phillip Gould-Bourn, William Hoyle and David Hulme

The award is very special in that it is voted for at the leagues AGM which was held on Wednesday 1 June 2016, it's for the most promising junior player for the season. The Manchester league chairman Mr Phillip Gould-Bourn re-presented the trophy to William during the weekly Sunday training session at Cheadle College.

"William has worked hard to achieve good results this season. The feature of his play is his consistent heavy topspin forehand that his opponents find too hot to handle. Fourteen year old William has three seasons left as a junior player, his current England ranking stands at number 80 which could be improved with hard work, practice and dedication” says academy head coach David Hulme.

With William leading the team for next season Manchester juniors will be challenging for the top slot in the premier division.

STTA is open to youngsters both girls and boys that want to play and get involved in the World’s largest racket sport; table tennis. So why not give it a go and give your children a break from those computer games! Beginners welcome.

Parrs Wood Greater Manchester table tennis champions

{{facebook_like}}

Parrs Wood High School's table tennis team are greater manchester Schools Champions and will progress to the regional finals.

The events were staged at Oldham Hulme Grammar School in Oldham on Sunday 29 November 2015, the school did the events proud by providing a first class venue.

"All the boys played their part with William Gregson and William Hoyle unbeaten and Alfie McIntyre picking up crucial matches in each fixture," explained Stockport Table Tennis Academy Head Coach David Hulme.

Almajd also battled hard and his points would have been crucial if the final went to a points count back, which it very nearly did when William Gregson looked certain to lose against Altrincham. But the 13 year-old, the most experienced player on the team, fought back to win in five games.

The next round will be in Blackburn in the New Year.

The team's success this weekend was just the next stage in a very positive start to the 2015-16 season for the boys: William Hoyle entered the top 100 U15s nationally earlier this season and teammate William Gregson is ranked in the top 30 U13s nationally. Both William's compete on the junior open circuit and represent Manchester in the Lancashire & Cheshire League.
