Teams, leagues and tournaments

Clothing
For training sessions your children will need to wear a T-shirt, shorts, socks, indoor training shoes and a tracksuit. Stockport TTA kit is available at subsidised prices.
Bats
Bats are provided for beginners. After a few months we recommend that players progress to getting their own table tennis bat with a suitable blade and suitable rubbers. There are many different kinds blades and rubbers on the market with considerably varying playing properties. Our head coach will advise players on the type of blade and rubbers that they should be using to suit their ability and playing style and players will not be able to participate with unsuitable bats. We discourage players getting bats from general/high street sports stores as these are usually toys - the club has contacts with professional table tennis suppliers able to provide the required standard of bats.

Refreshments
The nature of training and matches requires players to pay particular attention to their hydration. Sugar-free, weak fruit juices and water are all suitable - sugary, fizzy drinks are unsuitable.
Welfare officer and child protection
STTA is committed to providing a safe environment for children and we encourage children to report anything that they're not happy about to one of the coaches. We have a welfare officer, trained in child protection, on hand at training sessions. Our coaches are DBS checked as required by law, trained in first-aid and safeguarding children and qualified to coach table tennis - holding the ETTA-approved UKCC coaching qualification.

Addresses and directionsParental support
Parents have a key role in supporting children through a junior table tennis career - taxi, motivator, diary manager, financial support, kit washer and not to mention spectator, with many juniors playing matches, training and competing in tournaments several times a week. The support of parents is important and valued - the club wouldn't exist without your support and commitment.
